According to the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
On March 15 and 16, 2010, with support from the Workforce Training Fund from the State of Massachusetts, the entire staff of Cutting Edge Systems completed 2 full days of LEED training. The course was led by Martin Zogran of the Everblue Training Institute EverBlueEnergy.Com and qualifies all the attendees to sit for the LEED Green Associate certification test.
I’d like thank Mr. Zogran for the excellent presentation. Although some of the material was entirely new to a number of people who attended, Martin did a terrific job of presenting it in such a way that it was easy to understand, yet comprehensive enough for the certification.
While only a subset of the material applies directly to the nature of our business at Cutting Edge, I believe it is a priority to train our entire staff to understand all of the issues involved in green design. My intention is to expand our knowledge in this field so we can become a better resource to the architects and builders we partner with. It was enlightening to learn about all the principles that are considered in LEED design and to understand how the certification process works. I’m encouraged that many of our employees have already indicated they hope to become LEED certified within the next few months. We’ll keep you informed.
